International students enrolled at our College live with Australian families in a homestay. Students are welcomed into the family as one of the children. The warm, supportive home environment helps students learn about everyday Australian life and culture, and students are encouraged to participate in family activities and to practise English. Our homestay parents are conscientious in supporting their overseas student to achieve success at school and assist wherever needed such as attending parent teacher interviews at school. Australian parents become homestay parents to overseas students because they are genuinely interested in learning about other cultures and people.
The College recognizes that international students living and studying away from home require special support. Our Homestay Coordinator is in regular contact with all homestay parents to ensure that students are safe and happy. Mount Eliza Secondary College is very proud of its excellent Homestay Program. Applicants to become homestay parents are rigorously selected with only the best chosen. Our ongoing monitoring ensures that international students’ welfare is considered foremost at all times. All our homestays are trained in Child Safe Standard Code of Conduct and are committed to the safety of children. Copies of all school policies relating to Child safety can be found on our website.
